Alonso triunfa en Mónaco

Hasta la vuelta 49 del Gran Premio de Mónaco disputado esta tarde, todo parecía indicar que la lucha por la victoria iba a ser cosa de tres pilotos, con Fernando Alonso defendiéndose de los ataques de Kimi Raikkonen desde la primera vuelta, y Mark Webber siguiéndoles desde muy cerca y esperando a la segunda parada en boxes para intentar sacar ventaja.

En ese momento, la carrera estaba totalmente abierta. Pero pocos segundos después, Webber detenía su coche que había comenzado a desprender humo y después llamas de su motor Cosworth V8, lo que provocaba la aparición en pista del coche de seguridad.

Dos vueltas más tarde y aún con la carrera neutralizada, era el McLaren Mercedes de Raikkonen el que se encendía y también empezaba a humear por la parte trasera.

A partir de ese momento, Alonso se quedaba líder en solitario y sólo tenía que limitarse a consumir las vueltas quedaban para hacerse con la victoria por delante del McLaren de Juan Pablo Montoya.

Sin embargo, la actuación de Alonso ha sido impresionante, sabiendo soportar la tremenda presión a la que le ha sometido Raikkonen durante gran parte de la carrera.

McLaren finalmente ha obtenido la recompensa del segundo puesto alcanzado por Montoya.

La batalla por la tercera posición ha sido muy intensa una vez Webber y Raikkonen han quedado fuera de carrera.
Jarno Trulli, de repente, se encontraba con una posición de podio a su alcance, pero lamentablemente para el piloto de Toyota, que había seguido una estrategia de carrera a una sola parada, su TF106B se rompía a falta de seis vueltas para el final.

Finalmente ha sido David Coulthard el que ha podido lucir la capa de Superman ene l podio de Mónaco, ya que ha conquistado una excelente tercera posición para Red Bull. El veterano piloto escocés ha completado una extraordinaria carrera, ya que a pesar de haber estado presionado durante gran parte de la prueba y que en este podio ha tenido mucho que ver la fortuna, su equipo se merece este resultado después de un complicado inicio de temporada.

Rubens Barrichello parecía tener a su alcance su primer podio como piloto de Honda, pero en su única parada en boxes, el brasileño superaba el límite de velocidad en el pit lane y era penalizado por ello. Finalmente Rubens ha sido cuarto, una posición que deja en evidencia a su compañero Jenson Button, que hoy ha estado al nivel más bajo que se le recuerda desde que llegara al equipo Honda procedente de Renault. El británico ha concluido en una discreta 11ª posición.

Saliendo desde el pit lane, las cosas parecían muy complicadas para Michael Schumacher. Sin embargo, no se ganan siete campeonatos del mundo sin un talento especial. El piloto de Ferrari llegó a la bandera a cuadros 0,4s por detrás de Barrichello y fue sin duda el piloto más impresionante de la jornada.

Giancarlo Fisichella acabó sexto con el segundo Renault, perdiendo tiempo al comienzo de la carrera al quedar bloqueado por Barrichello, que iba a una sola parada.

Nick Heidfeld se ha hecho con dos puntos gracias a la séptima posición y el último punto ha sido para Ralf Schumacher con su Toyota.

Felipe Massa no pudo seguir a su compañero Schumacher en su remontada y ha terminado noveno, por delante de Tonio Liuzzi, que ha realizado una gran carrera para Toro Rosso.

Button no consiguió aguantar el ritmo de Liuzzi y ha acabado 10 segundos por detrás, en 11º lugar por delante de Christijan Albers, que ha tenido una carrera tranquila a bordo de su MF1 Toyota.

En la salida de la carrera Albers se cruzó con su compañero Tiago Monteiro, rompiendo el alerón delantero del coche del portugués, aunque tuvo suerte de no causar un accidente aún mayor. Albers recibió una penalización “drive through” por la maniobra, pero consiguió llegar a la meta 12º, por delante de Scott Speed.

Jacques Villeneuve ha terminado 14º en el segundo BMW Sauber, en parte debido a una penalización drive through después de que el canadiense ganara una posición estando detrás del coche de seguridad. Tiago Monteiro acababa 15º y sin duda preguntará a su equipo por qué su compañero comprometió de esa forma su carrera.

Franck Montagny ha sido el último en terminar, 15º, al volante de su Super Aguri Honda.

El Gran Premio de Mónaco ha sido, en muchos casos, un “habría podido ser”.

Fernando Alonso ha conseguido la victoria saliendo desde la Pole Position, mientras otros pilotos podrían y sin duda deberían haber subido con él al podio.

Para Red Bull Ferrari ha sido un día de ensueño.
