El probador de la escudería Wiliams, Alexander Wurz ha sido el hombre más rápido en la primera sesión de entrenamientos libres del Gran Premio de Europa en Nurburging, seguido de Anthony Davidson y Robert Kubica. Michael Schumacher ha sido el más veloz de los pilotos oficiales.

Wurz acabó los primeros libres con un crono de 1'32"079, mientras que el probador de Honda, Davidson fue segundo a 0.320 segundos, a pesar de intentar mejorar el crono del austriaco en las últimas vueltas. Por su parte, el piloto de pruebas de BMW Sauber, Kubica continúa impresionando con su buen rendimiento y tras completar 22 vueltas ha registrado un mejor tiempo de 1'32"852. Michael Schumacher, quien espera dar una gran alegría a sus seguidores este domingo en casa, acabó la primera sesión del día en cuarta posición después de rodar cuatro giros. Quinto ha sido el probador de Red Bull Racing, Robert Doornbos, seguido de Jenson Button y Rubens Barrichello, quienes han sido de los pocos pilotos oficiales que han completado más de una vuelta de instalación. El piloto de McLaren Mercedes, Kimi Räikkönen ha sido octavo y el alemán Ralf Schumacher noveno. El décimo mejor crono lo ha registrado el probador de MF1 Racing, Adrian Sutil, en su debut en la máxima categoría del automovilismo. El alemán ha sido más rápido que el suizo de Toro Rosso, Nee Jani, el americano Scott Speed y sus compañeros de equipo Christijan Albers y Tiago Monteiro. Takuma Sato ha sido más rápido que su nuevo compañero en pista Franck Montagny. El japonés ha marcado el 15º mejor tiempo y el francés ha quedado un puesto por detrás en la tabla. Cinco pilotos no han salido a pista en esta sesión (Massa, Webber, Rosberg, Heidlfed y Villeneuve) y otros siete han completando una o dos vueltas de instalación.
